** Product Description **

GruvenParts.com is pleased to announce replacement strengthened BRASS spur gears and high torque motors for the power folding mirrors on 2007-2014 GM trucks including Acadia, Traverse, Enclave, Escalade, Silverado, Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban, Sierra, Yukon, and Denali.  Also fits 2007-Present GMC pick-up trucks. As many have discovered, the folding mirror assembly on these trucks suffers from a thin, weak, plastic spur gear mounted to the main drive shaft.  The plastic spur gear cracks at the slightest impact or just wears out over time causing an inoperable folding mirror.  The GM motors also get weak and die quickly. Unfortunately, GM will only sell you a complete folding mirror assembly, which will cost you from $700-$1,200 ea after labor and paint, depending on the year/make/model.  And that $ would be wasted on another mirror assembly with another weak, plastic spur gear and weak electric motor that will also soon fail.  Don't waste time or hard earned money on more GM parts that will also soon fail!

GruvenParts.com has addressed this issue by designing a strengthened spur gear made from solid gear BRASS with a thicker cross section to eliminate the stress concentrations which cause fatigue cracking in the GM plastic gear. We have also designed a replacement high torque electric motor to accompany this new metal gear. Our new electric motor is required when switching out to the metal gear, as the ground circuit in the OEM motor does not allow for a metal gear to be installed. You can buy the gear/motor combo for one of both sides, and with the spur gear pre-attached to a new main shaft, or loose. Loose gear orders require installation of the spur gear onto the main shaft using 24 hour epoxy - please refer to the DIY article link above.  We have thoroughly tested our redesigned spur gear and high torque motor using a new, OEM mirror assembly and computerized test equipment.  Our test samples barely showed any wear whatsoever, and the testing did include random wacks against the mirror, jamming the mirror operation as it was folding, and manually stressing the mechanism all in an attempt the break the gear.  Each sample was tested more than 5,000 open/close cycles and was still going strong at that point !

This product carries a LIFETIME WARRANTY!  Provided you don't burn the vehicle, or otherwise smash the mirror into something, you can send back the motor drive unit to us and we'll replace the gear assembly and get it working again free of charge.  You would only be responsible for shipping under this warranty.

  1. The best solution 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Oct 2019

The motor and new brass gear are the best way to resolve the mirror problem. I purchased the motor and the new gear on a new shaft. The most important part was the instructions I downloaded from the site product page - very clear detailed instructions. I also found a GM Mirror Repair video clip on line. Between the two, I was able to be more confident in my process of repair. Of course nothing is as simple as it seems, but it sure wasn't as difficult as I expected.

Thanks Tim ! And please note we do now have an official video, the link is also posted at top of the product page. One of our installers (Mike) really goes through it using 4K video and narrates it well. Glad you got it fixed and its working again.

  2. Excellent Product! Pre-attached gear and motor assembly. 5 Star Review

Excellent fit! Watch the videos on disassembly! Take care on releasing spring. When grinding tabs on collet make sure you grind smooth and flush to avoid binding. Not a difficult project just take your time. The pre-attached gear will save you a days waiting for epoxy to cure. Great upgrade over the stock plastic spur gear.

  3. Fantastic product... far superior to OEM parts 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Sep 2019

The replacement motors and gears for my Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD were a fantastic solution to the failed OEM parts. GM should be ashamed of themselves for putting cheap plastic mirror fold gears in a heavy duty truck. Thank you Gruvenparts for making these replacement parts the way they should have been made in the first place. Brass wins out over plastic every time! I highly recommend the Gruvenparts product! I’ve already told several of my friends who have GM trucks about Gruvenparts.

  4. awesome 5 Star Review

Works as advertised. they came in fast installation was easy thanks to the instructions provided by gruven. didn’t even have to remove the whole mirror assembly because it’s was easier when you’re reinstalling everything back together. put everything back together and it twice as fast as the old one. i’m glad i decided to go this route instead of buying a whole assembly that is just gonna go bad in a couple years.

  5. Better than OEM 5 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Sep 2019

Excellent fit for aftermarket product. Glad I bought motor and gear as the OEM motor worm gear is slightly different from replacement round gear. Noticed that new gearing is slightly faster than factory movement as well. Only thing lacking was perhaps some gear lubes. All in all excellent product for price.

  7. Could be more pleased 5 Star Review

Did both mirrors and worked like advertised.Thank goodness there are still folks who see a wrong and make it right. A lifetime guarantee on a rebuild of a bad decision on parts used in a high end product. Thank you GruvenParts and bravo for your creativity.

  8. Awesome! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 9th Sep 2019

I was one of the first in line when the plastic gears were in prototype. I decided to upgrade to these brass gears and while I was at it change the motors as well. WOW! Money well spent! The gear works wonderfully and the new motor is twice as fast as the OEM one. Remember to grease the gears and everything will be smooth and quiet. These are high quality - well engineered parts that should outlast the rest of the vehicle. Don't second guess when ordering, just buy for both mirrors - you'll be glad you did!

  9. Works better than NEW! 4 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Sep 2019

2009 Chevy Silverado LTZ driver's mirros stopped folding months ago, then passenger mirror failed recently. Thanx to Silverado Forum for leading me to this repair kit versus buying new mirrors for > $400+ dollars!!! I purchased the new motors and gears.

25 pages of instructions is a lot for a DIY project, but being an engineer and former manufacturing technician I gave it a shot. Directions were almost as thorough as DoD drawings and specs I was familiar with.

The MOST DIFFICULT part of the job is removing and re-installing the retaining clip and large spring assy. I purchased a 3/4" PVC tee and used a vice to hold the assy. took a little effort but it worked!! Mirror folds better and faster than before!

  10. Parts worked like a champ! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Sep 2019

I ordered the pre-attached gear and motor kit for a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado passenger side mirror. The mirror has the turn signal, heat, and the auto folding mechanism... needles to say, there are a lot of wires. The parts arrived on time and the step by step instructions on the Gruven parts website was exactly on point and helped out a lot. I am not a gear head by any means, and I was able to complete this project. The tension spring definitely needs to be compressed with a press and deep well socket. That seemed to work the best. These are definitely the parts you want to replace that broken plastic gear.
