Description

GM Power Folding Mirror Repair Kit (Billet Steel)

Stop replacing $1,000 mirrors with the same flawed parts. The factory power-folding mirrors on GM trucks and SUVs fail because of a single, inexpensive plastic gear. When that gear cracks, dealers charge upwards of $700–$1,200 for a full mirror assembly that carries the exact same defect.

GruvenParts.com provides a permanent, engineered solution: high-strength Billet Steel gears and high-torque motors designed to outlast the vehicle.

The Engineering Gap: OEM Failure vs. GruvenParts Solution

Feature

OEM Factory Unit / Boost Auto

GruvenParts Billet Solution

Gear Material

Thin, fragile plastic spur gear.

High-strength Billet Steel (integral spiral shaft).

Failure Mode

Fatigue cracking from age or minor impact.

Virtually indestructible; tested to 5,000+ cycles.

Motor Specs

Low-torque; prone to burnout.

High-torque custom motor for smooth operation.

Grounding

Externally grounded (Incompatible with metal).

Internally grounded to prevent BCM short circuits.

Cost

$700 - $1,200 (Full assembly).

Under $100 (DIY Gear/Motor Kit).

Critical Technical Note: Why the Motor Matters

You cannot simply install a metal gear onto the factory GM motor. The OEM motor circuit is not designed for a conductive metal gear; attempting to "mix and match" will short out your Body Control Module (BCM). Every GruvenParts kit includes our custom-engineered, internally grounded motor to ensure electrical safety and increased torque.

Choosing Your Repair Path

Path 1: DIY Gear & Motor Kit The most cost-effective choice for those comfortable with a workbench repair.

  • Includes: 1 or 2 Billet Steel Gears and High-Torque Motors.
  • Best For: Owners looking for a permanent fix at the lowest price point.
  • Compatibility: Fits 2007–Present GM Non-Tow Mirrors (Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Acadia, Traverse, Enclave, Escalade).

Path 2: Pre-Assembled Drive Unit (Core Exchange)

Skip the internal assembly and swap the entire drive unit.

  • Includes: A fully rebuilt motor drive unit with the steel gear and motor already installed and tested.
  • Process: Requires a $30 core deposit. Send us your rebuildable old unit to receive your refund.
  • Note: Due to high demand and core availability, lead times can vary (approx. 4–6 weeks). For the fastest turnaround, you may send your unit in for a same-day rebuild.

Application & Fitment

This kit is designed for Standard (Non-Towing) Power Folding Mirrors on the following 2007–Present models:

  • Chevy: Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche, Traverse.
  • GMC: Sierra, Yukon, Denali, Acadia.
  • Cadillac/Buick: Escalade, Enclave.

Warranty: This product carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty. If the gear or motor fails under normal operating conditions, we will replace it free of charge—you only pay shipping.

Expert Installation Tips & FAQ

To ensure a successful repair and protect your vehicle's electronics, please review these critical requirements before beginning your installation:

  • The "No-Mix" Rule (Electrical Safety): Never attempt to install the Billet Steel gear using the original OEM motor. The factory motor is externally grounded; using it with a metal gear will create a short circuit and permanently damage your Body Control Module (BCM). You must use the internally grounded motor provided in our kits.
  • Mirror Type Verification: These parts are specifically engineered for Standard (Non-Tow) Mirrors. If your mirror extends outward for towing, these gears will not fit. Click here for our Towing Mirror Gear Page.
  • 2014+ Pickup Differences: If you own a 2014 or newer Silverado/Sierra, the mirror frame plastics differ from earlier generations. While the internal drive unit is identical, the housing disassembly requires a slightly different approach. Please refer specifically to our 2014-2018 PDF Guide.
  • The "Core" Condition (Option 2): If purchasing the pre-assembled drive unit, your returned "core" must be in rebuildable condition. We can only accept units where the motor or spur gear is the point of failure. If the main plastic housing or frame of your drive unit is physically shattered, it cannot be rebuilt or refunded.
  • Tool Tip: We recommend having a basic set of trim removal tools and a small socket set. Take photos during disassembly to ensure wire routing remains clear for the re-install.

Great way to save hundreds of $$$$$$$$$

Posted by Frank on 6th Feb 2018

The thought of spending over $500.00 for a replacement mirror just to have it fold was not a good option. I am so happy with the repair I am going to start offering it to my customers as an alternative to replacing the mirror. Thanks for a great product. -- Thanks Frank, let me know if you want to buy these in quantity, we can set you up with a wholesale discount. We work with quite a few shops already for the same thing and ensure their success and their customers satisfaction. We agree, there is no point in spending big bucks with GM only to get another plastic mechanism that will break the 1st time the customer clips the mailbox, or someone in a parking lot walks by and bumps the mirror. The truck is over 8' wide, of course the mirrors will get bumped from time to time! Paul@GruvenParts.com

2007 Yukon high torque motor and gear replacement.

Shipping was fast! Downloaded instructions online and waited for a Saturday to dig in, first mirror was a struggle until I figured out how to disassemble, then second mirror took 1/3 the time, used jb weld to adhere gear to shaft, and put everything together in reverse order. This is a moderate skill level job, plan for an all day thing in order to let weld set up. Would say to someone less mechanical to purchase the entire unit, and send core back. Overall was very detailed product with instructions. Fixed the problem.

A must fix for GM mirrors

Posted by Matt H on 1st Feb 2018

I have a '07 Escalade that had a faulty pass. mirror. I had previously purchased cheaper mirrors with motors to swap out, but thankfully, I never got around to it. I found out about this website and ordered the set of gears and motors for both windows. Very thankful for the time whoever spent making this fix!

    Great service and product!!

I originally bought this over a year ago and just never got around to doing the project until recently. I realized after getting started that the product had changed (improved) since I bought it so I e-mailed Paul for the old instructions. Instead of sending me the instructions he sent out 2 of the new updated motors without charging me anything!!! I got it finished today and works great. GREAT SERVICE/RESPONSE/PRODUCT!!

I own a 2007Cadillac Escalade that cost me $87,000 when purchased new .It has 82,000 miles on it now and has been a constant money drain for me . Your repair kit for the folding mirror has saved me $1200.00 in cost for new mirrors . I can't say how happy I was to find out about your products and company . I purchased the motor and gear kit about two months ago and just got to repairing my mirrors . I purchased the epoxy product that you recommended(you should sell this with the kits) from my local auto parts store , and pulled the driver's side mirror first . I was a little apprehensive about disassembling the plastic mirror, but slowly went about it with great success . I had the mirror gear and motor ready to put back together in 30 minutes . I let the epoxy cure overnight and tested it the next morning . Worked better than it did brand new ! Anybody can do this repair . I am 65 years old and have some mechanical ability , but go slow and follow the video on Youtube and you can do it ,also .

    Great fix!!

Posted by Shea on 23rd Jan 2018

Replaced the gear and motor in my 2007 Escalade EXT. Takes a little bit of work, but replacement is actually pretty easy. A great alternative to an entire mirror from GM. Instruction guide on the website is super detailed.Took about 2 hours of total work time...not counting waiting for the epoxy. Would definitely recommend!!

    Problem solved!

My 2009 GMC sierra's side mirrors quit working about a year ago. I happened to find out about Gruven replacement parts on a forum. Called and spoke with Paul about installation. With his answers to my questions I decided to purchase the kit. Even though it was during the holidays the kit arrived quickly. With the directions on line it wasn't very difficult. Paul was very quick to return my calls and answer my questions. His product and his service is excellent. I would definitely encourage anyone to buy his product.
