XJ Cherokee / Grand Cherokee Seat Height Gear Set

1.00 LBS

Product Description is PROUD to release this LIFETIME WARRANTIED SOLID BRASS GEAR SET for 1996-2004 Jeep Cherokee / Grand Cherokee power seat height adjustment mechanisms !

This set includes 1 helical cut solid brass main gear AND a solid brass mating worm drive gear. You will re-use the existing long main spiral shaft.

Do NOT just replace the spur gear, you need both the brass spur and mating brass worm gear for a bulletproof mechanism. These gears exactly match the Jeep plastic gears but are many times stronger so they will not chip, strip, or break. This is a GREAT WAY to save money AND make your Jeep seat power height adjustment mechanism BULLETPROOF! We all know that Jeep will not sell these gears - instead, they make you buy an entire new power seat unit (with more plastic gears that will also soon break or strip). Don't waste money on more plastic gears, or incomplete gear sets.

The gear set includes EVERYTHING that wears out and replaces them with SOLID BRASS GEARS - LIFETIME WARRANTIED !

The larger helical cut spur gear easily attaches to the main shaft via 24 hour cure epoxy, such as 24 hour JB weld 8265S (readily available at Home Depot, or on Amazon). You can quickly and easily remove the remnants of the Jeep plastic gear using a small dremel tool then just clean the underlying shaft before application of epoxy. The brass worm gear simply replaces the cheap plastic worm gear in the unit.

This product is sold as a set of 2 gears - (1) Brass Spur Gear and (1) Brass Worm gear. This is enough to fix ONE (1) power height adjustment mechanism.

Please note : IF there are TWO (2) power height adjusters on your seat - one for the seat front and 1 for the seat back, please buy quantity 2. You can tell this if your seat can adjust height at the front AND back of the seat, versus just in the center.  This does not fix the power forward / aft or seat recline features.

This product fits all 1996-2004 Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee with Power Seats.  P/N 362123 (and likely many others)

** Installation Instructions **

1. Access bottom of seat structure. This is easiest by removing power seat entirely from vehicle. Remove power seat bracket from bottom of seat bottom.

2. Remove the seat height adjustment drive box (boxes if you have 2)..

3. Remove the 2 (2) 1/4" screws holding each height adjustment drive box together. Remove and discard the plastic worm gear. Position the main spiral shaft with plastic spur gear such that the plastic spur gear can be cut off using a dremel wheel or similar.

4. Cut across the width of the plastic spur gear. Its OK to cut slightly into the underlying steel shaft. Wear eye protection !  Remove the old plastic spur gear and clean off the underlying steel shaft.  Dry fit the new brass high strength spur gear.  You may need to sand off a bit of material on the shaft such that the new brass gear can be easily slip fit onto the shaft.  The new brass spur gear should be positioned such that about 0.075" protrudes from end of gear to end of the metal shaft ball.  Exactly the same as the plastic gear sat.

5. Using a 24 hour epoxy such as JB Weld 8265S, thoroughly coat the steel underlying shaft. Slowly thread on the new brass spur gear, wiping away any excess JB weld. Once the JB weld dries, it is extremely hard to remove so clean any excess epoxy. Position the new brass gear such that the metallic washer recess is facing the spirals, just like the OEM layout.

6. Allow epoxy to fully cure per manufacturers instructions.

7 Reassembly is reverse of removal.

I was impressed with the quality of these parts. Looks like it should make the power seat bullet proof to me! Currently waiting on the epoxy to dry then reassemble the motors!

  2. Seat adjustment replacement gears 4 Star Review

Just received the gears for repair of my power seat. They look to be of good quality. I did not receive any documentation or instructions of any kind. So how do I install these parts? Are there any critical things I need to do to make this repair long lasting? Price for product received seems to be high.

Ronald - please visit the product page, we have instructions posted there. I dont send them out with each order since the instructions should be referenced online as they change. Let me know if you have any questions. The solid gear brass that we use to make those has gotten very expensive, but you can tell by how much they weigh they are very strong. You wont break them ever again like the plastic, and the price is far less than buying a whole new seat base which would still have plastic gears in it. We already know how that story ends.
