GM Truck BRASS Seat Height Adjustment Gears

0.50 LBS

Product Description

Click Here for the Installation Video is PROUD to release this LIFETIME WARRANTIED SOLID BRASS GEAR SET for 2007-2014 GM truck power seat height adjustment mechanisms !  This set includes 1 helical cut solid brass main gear AND a solid brass mating worm drive gear.  Do NOT just replace the spur gear, you need both the brass spur and mating brass worm gear for a bulletproof mechanism.  These gears exactly match the GM plastic versions but are many times stronger so they will not chip, strip, or break.  This is a GREAT WAY to save money AND make your GM truck seat power height adjustment mechanism BULLETPROOF!  We all know that GM will not sell these gears - instead, they make you buy an entire new power seat unit (with more plastic gears that will also soon break or strip).  Don't waste money on more plastic gears, or incomplete gear sets.  The gear set includes EVERYTHING that wears out and replaces them with SOLID BRASS GEARS - LIFETIME WARRANTIED !

The larger helical cut spur gear easily attaches to the main shaft via 24 hour cure epoxy, such as 24 hour JB weld 8265S (readily available at Home Depot, or on Amazon).  You can quickly and easily remove the remnants of the GM plastic gear using a small dremel tool then just clean the underlying shaft before application of epoxy.  The brass worm gear simply replaces the cheap plastic worm gear in the unit.

This product is sold as a set of 2 gears - (1) Brass Spur Gear and (1) Brass Worm gear.  This is enough to fix ONE (1) power height adjustment mechanism.  Please note there are TWO (2) power height adjusters on each seat - one for the seat front and 1 for the seat back.  This does not fix the power forward / aft or seat recline features.

This product fits all 2007-2014 GM Trucks with Power Seats, Including Escalade, Silverado, Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban, Sierra, Yukon, and Denali, and likely many others.  The part numbers for the seat tracks which these gears fit into are : 22-80-44-17 (228044170, 22-80-44-18 (22804418), 22-80-44-19 (22804419), 22-80-44-20 (22804420), 20-77-91-09 (20779109), 20-77-91-10 (20779110) as well as many others.  This part number list will continually grow !

** Installation Instructions **

1. Access bottom of seat structure.  This is easiest by removing power seat entirely from vehicle.  Remove power seat bracket from bottom of seat bottom.

2. Remove the flexible drive shaft for the height adjustment drive box.  You can pull the drive box away from the drive shaft slightly to gain the needed clearance.  The flex drive shaft will fall out.  Please be sure to mark the drive shafts if you are replacing both height gear sets as the drive shafts are different lengths.

3. Remove the Four (4) 1/4" screws holding each height adjustment drive box together.  Remove and discard the plastic worm gear.  Position the main spiral shaft with over-molded plastic spur gear such that the plastic spur gear can be cut off using a dremel wheel or similar.

4. Cut across the width of the plastic spur gear.  Its OK to cut slightly into the underlying steel shaft.  Wear eye protection !  Remove the old plastic spur gear and clean off the underlying steel shaft.

5. Using a 24 hour epoxy such as JB Weld 8265S, thoroughly coat the steel underlying shaft.  Slowly thread on the new brass spur gear, wiping away any excess JB weld.  Once the JB weld dries, it is extremely hard to remove so clean any excess epoxy.  Position the new brass gear such that the metallic washer recess is facing the spirals, just like the OEM layout.  There should be about .050" of main shaft exposed (not including shaft ball end) once new brass gear is installed.  You can also look at the OTHER height mechanism and measure its gear placement.

6. Allow epoxy to fully cure per manufacturers instructions.

7 Reassembly is reverse of removal.

Thanks! A lot expensive but I guess it's worth it to get my seat off the roof! :)

2010 Buick Lucerne CXL - This gear worked like a charm! The instructional video was quite useful. I’m 99% noob and, with slow, deliberate work, even I was able to get this fixed.

  3. Infinitely better than the plastic factory junk. 5 Star Review

Great product! Though I would also have liked a bit of instructional material (exploded diagram, for example), the referenced video was very helpful. I would also add a few more details, having just installed them myself yesterday and today. But the gears themselves are excellent and worked perfectly. And this approach is WAY less expensive and better than any of the alternatives.

  5. Great fix for a GM Shortcoming! 5 Star Review

Thanks to Gruven for making this kit. There are a number of things GM could've done better with this design. Say metal gears with splines or keyway.
I found it easiest to take out the whole seat and put in on sawhorses next to the truck with a clip on the seatbelt. The part about JB welding the gear on the shaft was a little scary. I was nervous about the .050 clearance at the tip but I used a spark plug gapping tool and it worked fine.
The installation video I think says 5 thousandths for the tip gap but the calipers showed .050 which I think is 5 hundrdeths. Either way I went with .050 on my gapping tool and it went together well.

  6. 2011 Suburban seat issue solved with Gruven gear kit 5 Star Review

i had just bought my 2011 Suburban and found the front seat would not move up or down on the front of the seat, all it would do it click, click, click when touch the switch. I knew a new or used seat bottom would be an expensive fix until i googled my problem and i found a video that talked about a problem Chevy had with 2007-2015 Suburban/Tahoe etc. and that's with i found Gruven Parts in Atlanta Ga area. So i ordered the kit and followed the video instructions and installed my kit and away we go!!! Happy Trails again!!!!! Thanks to Gruven for filling in the gap for Chevy! FIVE STARS from me!

  7. A must for this repair... 5 Star Review

Installation is relatively simple and straightforward. The installation kit should include a filler gauge type of measurement to set the main gear at .005". Overall great quality.

  8. Challenging, but worth the effort GM folding Mirror fix, Seat lift gear. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Jan 2021

The gear set is excellent. The video and instruction was also excellent with the step by step process. The first mirror took about two hours, the second took half hour. The seat lift gear took about 3 hours, It might be helpful for some to know that the seat tilt gear may also be upgraded with the same brass set while doing the project on some models. Thanks for everything.

  9. High Ridin Again! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Jan 2021

I am so thankful for the two brass replacements gear set that Gruven makes. Without them I would have had to purchase a complete assembly from the junk yard or dealer and they Still would have had the plastic gear.
The YouTube video provides detailed instructions on how to install the gears. Everything went smoothly and it was as enjoyable to install as it is to drive at the right seat elevation once again!
