Description

GM Power Seat Height Adjustment Gear Kit (Solid Brass)

Stop replacing entire seat tracks for one broken plastic gear. In 2007–2014 GM vehicles, the power seat height adjustment relies on a fragile plastic gear set that eventually strips or chips under the weight of the occupant.

When these gears fail, dealerships will only sell you a complete seat track assembly ($600–$900+). GruvenParts.com offers a Solid Brass permanent fix that replaces both failure points in the mechanism for a fraction of the cost.

The Engineering Gap: OEM Plastic vs. GruvenParts Brass

Feature

OEM Factory Part

GruvenParts Solution

Material

Molded plastic (Spur & Worm gears).

Solid Brass (Helical-cut).

Durability

Prone to stripping, chipping, and total failure.

Industrial strength; will not strip or break.

Repair Scope

Replace the entire seat track unit.

Targeted repair of the internal gears only.

Value

$600+ plus high labor costs.

Affordable DIY kit with a Lifetime Warranty.

What’s Included in the Kit?

Unlike incomplete kits on the market, we provide a matched set to ensure a "bulletproof" repair. Replacing only one gear often leads to the new metal gear chewing through the remaining old plastic gear.

  • (1) Helical Cut Solid Brass Main Spur Gear
  • (1) Solid Brass Mating Worm Drive Gear
  • Note: One kit repairs ONE (1) height adjuster. Each seat typically has two adjusters (Front Height and Rear Height).

Application & Fitment

This kit fits 2007–2014 GM Vehicles equipped with power seats, including:

  • Chevy: Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche.
  • GMC: Sierra, Yukon, Denali.
  • Cadillac: Escalade, DTS.

Compatible Seat Track Part Numbers: 22804417, 22804418, 22804419, 22804420, 20779109, 20779110 (and more).

Installation Support

This is a DIY-friendly repair that requires basic tools (Dremel, 1/4" socket) and a high-strength 24-hour epoxy (such as JB Weld 8265S).

Installation Snapshot:

  1. Remove Seat: Gain access to the bottom seat structure.
  2. Open Drive Box: Remove the four screws to access the gears.
  3. Remove Old Plastic: Use a Dremel to carefully cut away the failed plastic spur gear.
  4. Bond New Gear: Apply 24-hour epoxy to the shaft and thread on the new Brass Spur gear.
  5. Replace Worm Gear: Swap the plastic worm gear with the new Brass version.

Cure & Reinstall: Allow epoxy to fully cure before testing seat movement.

    Worked great for Tahoe

Posted by Dave Snyder on 23rd Jul 2020

I followed the instructions and it worked great for 08 Tahoe. The gear was stripped on the seat bottom tilt. I did have to use a fine grinder wheel to take a whisper off the shaft so the new gear would slide on. I have used JB weld many times for various things and it’s a perfect solution for this application.

Great Upgrade to Failed Factory Gears

Posted by Rodney V. on 16th May 2020

Very excited about the quality of the parts. I did have to file the shaft down a little so the gear would fit. The youtube video was helpful but the location of the gear was not clear from my recollection. The video said 5 thousandth's however the video of the calipers was 0.05 which is 50 thousandths, so I winged it. Would have been 5 stars if there were better instructions on the installation of the gears but overall very happy with the parts

    EXCELLENT PRODUCT

Posted by RON HOUSER on 27th Feb 2020

I BOUGHT A SET OF THESE SEAT GEARS AND WAS REALLY PLEASED WITH THE PRICE. I LOOKED AT PLASTIC GEARS ON E-BAY AND THEY WERE ONLY $4.00 CHEAPER. IF I HAD BOUGHT THE PLASTIC ONES, I WOULD PROBABLY BE REPAIRING THE SEAT AGAIN IN THE NEAR FUTURE. WITH THESE BRASS GEARS I DON'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT EVER REPLACEING THEM AGAIN. THERE IS ONE THING I WOULD RECOMMEND, I DID NOT GET ANY INSTRUCTIONS AT ALL. AND THERE SHOULD BE A BREAK DOWN DIAGRAM OF THE LITTLE GEAR BOX SHOWING WHERE EVERYTHING IT SHOULD BE PLACED. MAYBYE THEY JUST FORGOT TO PACKAGE MY INSTRUCTIONS THANKS RON -- response -- Thanks Ron ! The instructions are printed on the product page, we are also adding a video today, so you will have lots of resources now for instructions. Glad you found us ! The brass gear set includes both the spur and worm gears, both hardened gear brass. I know others sell the cheap plastic ones, or some just sell the spur gear but leave the driving worm gear plastic, which makes no sense. The plastic gears are obviously NOT up to the task of moving the seat around. Stay tuned for more products like this, we are working on metal fwd/aft gear sets too ! Paul@GruvenParts.com

    High quality parts!

Posted by Unknown on 30th Dec 2019

I was impressed with the gears. Exact size as OEM. Fits really nice. I decided to scrap the jb weld idea tho, as that just seems like a shitty way to secure them. Use spring pins instead. Worked great after I got them all together. Customer is very happy. Will definitely order more. -- Response -- Thanks for the review, and spring pins will also work. But please note, the 24 hour JB weld has an excellent shear strength once fully cured. It does a great job on this for field repairs and should be considered if you dont have access to a drill press/spring pins. We have fully tested it, you cannot break the bond strength unless you put a torch to it once its cured. Paul@GruvenParts.com

    Great product but......

Posted by Jeff Moehr on 20th Dec 2019

These gears are great, they will last a lifetime. The only thing to make them better would be to give some kind of instructions with the package. This is not a job for the do it your selfers, If you do not have a mechanical understanding of how things work I would not advise it Other than that great product, I'm looking forward to the new products. -- Response -- Jeff, there are instructions posted on the website product page, but I understand a video would be even better. Its a great suggestion and we are doing that now, it should be ready soon and the link will also be posted up on the website. This product is absolutely meant for the DIY'er, its the whole point of this product. Replace cheap plastic gears that you would have to buy an entire $500 seat base to get, and upgrade to metal gears at a fraction of the cost. Its a perfect DIY job. As always you can call or email me directly for any help, I will be happy to walk you thru installation. Its not that bad and so worth NOT ever having to do this again !

    GM sear gears

Posted by Dennis B. on 20th Dec 2019

Product is very well machined. Certainly a great cost alternative to replacing the entire bottom seat track. Had to replace both gears on both front driver and front passenger seats (4 gears total). Two new seat tracks would have been $1,400 installed, but this whole project only cost a couple hundred $’s. Thanks for making better than OEM parts replacements.

Brass gears for GM power seats 2010 Avalanche

Posted by Michael on 16th Dec 2019

I recommend these replacement gears to anyone having trouble with broken or striped GM power seat gears. I saved $600 by replacing mine, did it myself no problems and I’d never worked on any type power seats. Only takes a couple hours (not counting drying time for E-proxy) They work great and will last from now on. Very Happy with this purchase.l had a question about the gear orientation and Paul e-mailed me the answer that afternoon,Thanks Paul couldn’t have asked for better parts or service.

    Brass Gears for 2010 Suburban

Posted by Paul Verga on 5th Dec 2019

GM should have used these from the beginning but we all know how cheap car makers are. The best alternative to plastic gears. Have being an auto tech for 20 years these replacement gears are great. Follow the directions and let the JB Weld cure, reassemble & enjoy the repaired product. I would order them again in a heart beat if any of the other seat transmission gears break. Thanks for a great product.
