Description

GM Power Seat Height Adjustment Gear Kit (Solid Brass)

Stop replacing entire seat tracks for one broken plastic gear. In 2007–2014 GM vehicles, the power seat height adjustment relies on a fragile plastic gear set that eventually strips or chips under the weight of the occupant.

When these gears fail, dealerships will only sell you a complete seat track assembly ($600–$900+). GruvenParts.com offers a Solid Brass permanent fix that replaces both failure points in the mechanism for a fraction of the cost.

The Engineering Gap: OEM Plastic vs. GruvenParts Brass

Feature

OEM Factory Part

GruvenParts Solution

Material

Molded plastic (Spur & Worm gears).

Solid Brass (Helical-cut).

Durability

Prone to stripping, chipping, and total failure.

Industrial strength; will not strip or break.

Repair Scope

Replace the entire seat track unit.

Targeted repair of the internal gears only.

Value

$600+ plus high labor costs.

Affordable DIY kit with a Lifetime Warranty.

What’s Included in the Kit?

Unlike incomplete kits on the market, we provide a matched set to ensure a "bulletproof" repair. Replacing only one gear often leads to the new metal gear chewing through the remaining old plastic gear.

  • (1) Helical Cut Solid Brass Main Spur Gear
  • (1) Solid Brass Mating Worm Drive Gear
  • Note: One kit repairs ONE (1) height adjuster. Each seat typically has two adjusters (Front Height and Rear Height).

Application & Fitment

This kit fits 2007–2014 GM Vehicles equipped with power seats, including:

  • Chevy: Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche.
  • GMC: Sierra, Yukon, Denali.
  • Cadillac: Escalade, DTS.

Compatible Seat Track Part Numbers: 22804417, 22804418, 22804419, 22804420, 20779109, 20779110 (and more).

Installation Support

This is a DIY-friendly repair that requires basic tools (Dremel, 1/4" socket) and a high-strength 24-hour epoxy (such as JB Weld 8265S).

Installation Snapshot:

  1. Remove Seat: Gain access to the bottom seat structure.
  2. Open Drive Box: Remove the four screws to access the gears.
  3. Remove Old Plastic: Use a Dremel to carefully cut away the failed plastic spur gear.
  4. Bond New Gear: Apply 24-hour epoxy to the shaft and thread on the new Brass Spur gear.
  5. Replace Worm Gear: Swap the plastic worm gear with the new Brass version.

Cure & Reinstall: Allow epoxy to fully cure before testing seat movement.

    Worked as promised

Wife could not drive my Denali for years - one Saturday afternoon and we are back in business. Hassle to get seats out but much cheaper than new seat bottoms from the dealer. Would highly recommend.

    it works

Arrived quickly. Follow video instructions. Recommend dry fitting first. I had to lightly file the shaft to get the gear to slide on. Recommend measuring gap during dry fit, then marking the farthest point behind the gear to make sure it does not inadvertently move after applying JB Weld. Seat moves like new now. Also, recommend replacing seat cushion foam at this time, since the gear replacement puts you halfway there.

    Got seat working

Posted by Bryan G on 20th Feb 2022

My application was 08 suburban driver seat with electric forward/ backward and two up/down adjustment motors. My front up/down adjustment gearset broken which is actually the middle motor of the three. Two brass gears come in the kit. My seat had one steel worm gear that I reused and one broken plastic wheel (driven) gear that I replaced with one out of the kit. The brass worm gear in the kit may be needed in a different application, but in my case the factory worm gear was a better fit in the plastic gear cover housing assembly. There are videos of how to remove old gear with a dremel on youtube. Once removed I used a file to slightly reduce shaft dia. So that the new gear would fit up over shaft. Clean well. I used carb cleaner. Roughed up inside surface of gear then jb weld. Gravity was not a friend so prop it to keep gear stationary for 24 hours while hardening. I left aprox 1/32 inch shaft sticking out beyond gear..the ball bearing in end of shaft rides on metal disc. Watch this small thrust disc part may fall out upon disassembly. Needed for proper gear lash. Clean old grease and broken plastic chips out of gear housing halfs. I used silicon grease packets for brake caliper pins from orileys as lubricant on reassembly. Tested seat with 12 volt supply. All working now. Time to re install seat.

    Sturdy Product

Like the product very much, a lot more robust than cheap plastic factory part. Installation guide very informative and helpful. Does take some time to do the repair but well worth it. A lot cheaper than trying to locate a replacement adjuster and hope that it is not stripped as well. Would recommend!
