Description

Stop paying $800+ per side for factory mirror assemblies. Fix your RAM's power folding mirrors permanently with our precision-engineered Solid Brass & Billet gears and high-torque motors.

The power folding mirror assemblies on 2009–2018 RAM trucks are notorious for failing due to a weak, thin plastic spur gear and an underpowered electric motor. Dealerships only offer the option to replace the entire assembly—only for it to fail again down the road. GruvenParts offers the permanent, lifetime fix.

    Works great!

If you have the metal drive case, ignore the references to "epoxy". Instructions could be more clear. I watched a few youtube videos that pertained to my truck and that helped. I found that a large bench vise and socket to compress the spring and some pliers to rotate the retaining clip helped.

    Metal gears are critical

Posted by Unknown on 18th Oct 2023

Dodge makes their electric retracting mirrors with plastic gears. So the entire mirror assembly is no longer good after the plastic gears fail. These metal gears, although not a real easy to repair part, should make my two broken mirrors work again. Why they didn't make their vendor upgrade to metal is unnerving as it probably would have cost five bucks for the upgrade.

    Totally worth it !

    Posted by Jaslhub@aol.com on 7th Oct 2023

It is a little pricey but compare to $800 bucks on the high end and $200 on the low end for a whole assembly. It is totally worth it. Even the motor that's provided is better then the oem motor. Mine close and open before my other side does now. Paul himself is great and he gets the parts to you as quickly as he can. He very quick on responding to all your concerns and questions. There's no rating for him so I'll give him a 5 star on this review. Now, as far as the repair goes. The instructions provided are pretty good but a video would have been more helpful. Also would of been nice if this kit came with a new locking washer for the spring. Just in case you send it flying or if it gets damage while trying to take it off. Other then that I couldn't be more happy with this kit.

    Nice Fix--- Finesse Install

Posted by Tim on 11th Sep 2023

Tools you will need: 1) Have a Dremel tool or equivalent on hand. And some grinding wheels. You'll need to do some grinding. 2) 1" (or close to it) thin wall steel tubing... about an 1" or so long. 3) Good sized curved jaw Channel Lock pliers. 4) A vise or arbor press. 5) Electric screwdriver. (Nice to have but not necessary.) 6) Small flat blade screwdrivers. T15 and T20 torx bits too. 7) A small hammer Getting to the gear box and removing it is pretty straightforward. Disconnecting the puddle lamp connector is probably the most difficult step. Getting the gear box apart is a moderate adventure. I used several small flat blade screw drivers and hammered them in a little at a time to separate the top and bottom halves of the gear box. Keep working the screwdrivers in and pry gently. Eventually the gear box will surrender. Originally I tried using a 15/16" socket to push on the spring retainer ring. The teeth of the socket would grab the retaining ring notches and made it difficult to turn the retaining ring. This is where the thin wall tubing is needed. The mirror post is just under 1" in diameter. You'll need that vise or arbor press to compress the spring unless you have the strength of Samson. 1" PVC pipe could be used but the OD of the PVC is large and makes it more difficult to get the pliers on the retaining ring. Unless you like taking apart and re-assembling the gear box (you won't) go ahead and grind down the length of the spur gear shaft to prevent binding on the gear box walls. Use a 1/4" Dremel sanding drum to remove a little material from the spur gear mounting area plastic. Not much material is needed to removed but enough to ensure that there's enough clearance for the spur gear. It's no fun to have to tear the box apart again after finding out there's interference on the rotating parts. Re-assembling the spring and retaining ring on the mirror post is probably the most difficult part of this process. The spring covers the locking lugs on the mirror post as it's compressed, making it difficult to know if the notches on the retaining ring are lining up and are past the lugs. Go slow and carefully as you compress the spring with the vise. Rotate the retaining ring with the pliers when you have the spring compressed enough to clear the lugs. You're kinda flying blind during this step. Gruven's supplied instructions (located on this website) are usable. Disregard the epoxy bit. That's outdated info. Make the recommended witness marks on the mirror post and mirror base before you pull the post off. The collet piece can drop into 3 different notches as you rotate it 360 degrees. Use only the position that puts the collet at its' lowest height. All in all, it's not too terribly difficult but it does require some finesse to re-assemble that gear box, particularly the retaining ring/spring.

    Quality parts with Excellent Instructions

Posted by Warren L. on 19th May 2023

Highly recommend. No plastic in this replacement part for my 2017 Ram side view power fold mirror. Built the way it should have been from the factory. I had a question and used the email contact that was supplied in the instructions. Paul responded in a matter of hours with a couple options for me to try. He was spot on with his advice and I was able to fix the issue within 10 minutes. The hardest part of changing this part out is removing the spring that's inside the motor housing.

    Excellent quality

Posted by Larry McAdoo on 8th Apr 2023

Great product made right and of superb quality material. This is a complex process to rebuild these drive units, but if you follow the instructions, take your time and slowly and methodically go through the instructions and pictures you can do this yourself. I would recommend doing both of them even if you have only one mirror not working properly.
