This is the O-R-I-G-I-N-A-L billet 4.2 Oil filter housing cap.  Its made right here in Atlanta, GA from aerospace grade 6061-T651 aluminum.  Dont fall for cheap rip offs made in China out of mystery meat!

GruvenParts.com has released these billet aluminum oil filter housing covers for VW and Audi 4.2L V8 to replace OEM part number 077-115-433B (077115433B). The OEM plastic oil filter housing cover is not very durable and often strips out making it impossible to remove the oil filter. The engine flange which this cover screws into costs over $1,000 and is easily broken while trying to remove a stripped filter housing cover. We plan to put this nonsense to and end!

The GruvenParts billet aluminum oil filter housing cover is made from a massive chunk of Aircraft Grade 6061-T6511 Aluminum. The section is delicately placed onto one of our special CNC machining centers and precision cut to EXACTLY match the OEM plastic housing. The metal gods (well, in this case, one of our highly talented CNC programmers) has programmed elaborate steps for the very time consuming and expensive operation of profiling the special buttress threads into the housing using the exact DIN spec thread cutting tool required for a perfect seal. It simply doesn’t get better than this!

We also provide USEABLE 24mm hex flats so you can easily remove the housing with a standard 24mm socket. This could possibly make changing your oil fun again!

Audi A4/S4/Quattro/Cabrio (2002-2007) w/4.2L V8 BHF engine

This housing uses the standard OEM filter, P/N 079-198-405A (079198405A). You can order the billet housing with or without the filter.

    My Phaeton filter housing was stripped by the dealer (yes, I can not make that up), who in turn could not get it off. Rather than replace the OEM part with another flimsy piece of plastic, I found Gruven Parts's aluminum alternative, which cost less than the OEM part!

    Once I received it, I was able to get the original off using a plumber's basin wrench to lever on the worn 24mm stud. I lubricated the Gruven Part and added a new gasket to it (recommend this, and perhaps Gruven could ship those with the part). Part fits perfectly.

    Added benefit I found is that the shininess of the aluminum makes it MUCH easier to see as you work through all the obstructions that VW/Audi put upstream of the filter. Much better than the matte black OEM part.

    Very happy with this part! Great value as well.

    I am still amazed my $85K car came with a plastic piece of crap Audi/VW? I'm
    sorry the cover has a cover, the brushed aluminum replacement part is sharp, shinny and cheaper then the MRP.

    Overall, this is a nice replacement for the plastic Audi oil filter cap. Well made and nicely machined. I did expect a little better finish on the product. I work for a company that machines aluminum, and I know that the finishes can be made to sparkle a little more than this cap does. But, hey, it's an oil filter cap that's hidden under a black plastic cover, so I'm not going to get all anal about it.
    As far as the material used, this aluminum cap is greatly superior to the original plastic cap. That thing is just stupid, especially on a car that costs as much as an Audi S4. I like the replacement I received!

    Thanks Dale for the honest words. The cap is machined on mill from a block of 6061-T651. The finish is pretty nice being as machined, but if you really wanted this thing to be mirror like, all it would take is some aluminum polish and 10 or 20 minutes. We also do chrome plate these from some show cars, but as you said, most customers are happy with the as machined finish since its hidden. Always good to ditch more of the plastic, I agree the S4 should never have come with this part made from plastic ! Would love to see pics installed if you can email, perhaps we can upload to our site !
