Product Description

MKIV R32, EOS, Touareg, A3, and Audi TT Bushings Now Available!

Finally - Replacements for the problematic OEM VW intake manifold shift rod bushings – in most cases theres no need to buy a replacement shift rod!

These bushings are sold in sets of 2 to replace the 2 bushing rods - if you have the very early 99.5 model year with the even more pathetic 5 bushing rod, you need to buy a 2 bushing rod to use these.

The OEM bushings wear quickly and become the source of loud rattles you hear during acceleration and deceleration. The worn OEM bushings will quickly eat your plastic intake manifold, and cause expensive repairs.

gruvenparts.com Intake Manifold Bushings are thicker, made from more durable material, and most importantly, geometrically designed to maximize surface area contacting the intake manifold. Our bushings are made using CNC equipment with very tight tolerances as a matched set. The set up and programming times are extensive.

Please note, if your VR6 has been rattling excessively, you may need to replace the plastic intake manifold. The GruvenParts.com bushings should still be used in the new manifold to prevent this problem from occurring again.

  1. VW VR6 - upper intake manifold rotating baffle - BUSHING replacement. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 10th Aug 2017

Bushing arrived as described & promised.

I pulled the upper manifold before installing the new bushings. If you leave the upper manifold on, be sure to open the passenger side end-cap to the baffle FIRST and retain the small greenish bushing that is on the end of the baffle to avoid it falling into the lower intake manifold.

The Gruven bushings install on the baffle easily. (Do your best to clean away the tars and gunk on the baffle & inside the upper manifold where it rotates prior to installing.) Again, clean the baffle's journals and AVOID enlarging the inner radius of the Gruven part.

The upgraded (w/ Gruven part) baffle will initially NOT fit back in. The problem is the VW upper manifold, NOT with the Gruven part. The manifold has mold remnants present (just inside the driver's side end of the baffle tube) that need to be lighly sanded down with lightly wet EMORY CLOTH. (I taped the cloth to a dowel and hand sanding took ~ 5 minutes.) You also need to carefully & barely knock the leading edge (passenger sides only) off of the Gruven bushings with the emory cloth to facilitate the install.

  2. good with modification 4 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Jul 2017

Worked as described but had to shave the inside circumference of the plastic bushings for them to be able to spin freely on rod. Spoke with Paul and that was his advice. So I had to have the manifold off twice to remedy the situation. I would give 3 stars for having to take the manifold off twice but honestly it's my fault for not checking that the piece didn't spin freely enough for it to work. Deducted one star for having to modify it. Great piece otherwise!

Thanks Tom for honest review and sorry there was some trouble with the bushings rotating on the rod. As we discussed on the phone, sometimes there are high spots on the rod journals that can be removed to allow the rod to spin easier on the bushings. I am glad we got this sorted, and there should be no more rattles. Please let me know if any other questions and thanks for calling / being a great customer!

  3. nice 5 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd May 2017

Bushings came quick in the mail, they didn't want to snap together right away but I just needed to clean the Rod a little bit, it was a tight fit but once they were in it all came back together. They immediately got rid of the Knocking noise and have performed as advertised and designed. Very happy with them.

  4. Exactly what I needed. 5 Star Review

Parts came in quick, install was a breeze and now the annoying rattle is gone. Definitely felt like better quality than the ones that were put on before.

Amazing product, did not expect this small plastic part would completely eliminate the rattle in my manifold!

  7. Too easy! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Dec 2016

We are used car dealers since 1964. No experience with Volkswagen V6. Heard rattling sound from engine, expected the worst. Got online and found cause for noise might be shifter rod bushings. Ordered these, a joy to Install. Noise gone....too easy!

  8. Best bang for your buck! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Nov 2016

These bushings may be 49.99 but they are worth it . Had some trouble with fitment but was able to call gruven and talk to someone who knew exactly what they were talking about . Which explained why they are a little larger and that you do not need to shave them down you simply lightly scuff the port in the intake where the baffle goes and heat it with a heat gun to swell the plastic. Was told they are bigger because of the grooves caused by the old bushings . No more chatter noise since I replaced them !! Well worth it!

Thanks Brandon, I appreciate you calling and this review. As always, give me a ring if any questions with any of our products. I know these can sometimes require a bit of "fine tuning" to get in there, but once installed should provide lots of rattle free miles !

  9. Didnt fit 3 Star Review

Posted by on 23rd Nov 2016

I had to shave around tye edges of the bushing for them to fit. Even then they were a tight fit. The fixed the rattling noise in the intake, which is great. If i didn't have to shave them i would have given a 5.

    response -
Ok thanks for the honest review. We have to build these bushings slightly thicker and larger outer diameter, otherwise they would just drop in and you would have the same rattles as the OEM bushings. Sometimes this does require slight sanding/removal of high spots on the manifold bore. Ultimately this is the best method though and the increased interference fit is exactly what stops the loud rattles. As always, call or email me directly if you have any questions or concerns during the install process - Paul@GruvenParts.com, 404-556-6663

  10. Best $50 I Ever Spent! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Nov 2016

I had a rattle from my intake every time I accelerated. Drove me nuts. At first, I thought it might be valve-related. After some research, I ordered these and replaced them this afternoon. After test driving, the rattle is gone and my VR6 runs and accelerates much more smoothly.

    -- Gruven response --

Cool, thanks for posting ! Let us know how it continues to operate, and dont forget about the billet VR6 intake link and drive ball incase you need to replace the inferior plastic VW ones !
