Product Description

MKIV R32, EOS, Touareg, A3, and Audi TT Bushings Now Available!

Finally - Replacements for the problematic OEM VW intake manifold shift rod bushings – in most cases theres no need to buy a replacement shift rod!

These bushings are sold in sets of 2 to replace the 2 bushing rods - if you have the very early 99.5 model year with the even more pathetic 5 bushing rod, you need to buy a 2 bushing rod to use these.

The OEM bushings wear quickly and become the source of loud rattles you hear during acceleration and deceleration. The worn OEM bushings will quickly eat your plastic intake manifold, and cause expensive repairs.

gruvenparts.com Intake Manifold Bushings are thicker, made from more durable material, and most importantly, geometrically designed to maximize surface area contacting the intake manifold. Our bushings are made using CNC equipment with very tight tolerances as a matched set. The set up and programming times are extensive.

Please note, if your VR6 has been rattling excessively, you may need to replace the plastic intake manifold. The GruvenParts.com bushings should still be used in the new manifold to prevent this problem from occurring again.

  1. Too easy! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Dec 2016

We are used car dealers since 1964. No experience with Volkswagen V6. Heard rattling sound from engine, expected the worst. Got online and found cause for noise might be shifter rod bushings. Ordered these, a joy to Install. Noise gone....too easy!

  2. Best bang for your buck! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Nov 2016

These bushings may be 49.99 but they are worth it . Had some trouble with fitment but was able to call gruven and talk to someone who knew exactly what they were talking about . Which explained why they are a little larger and that you do not need to shave them down you simply lightly scuff the port in the intake where the baffle goes and heat it with a heat gun to swell the plastic. Was told they are bigger because of the grooves caused by the old bushings . No more chatter noise since I replaced them !! Well worth it!

Thanks Brandon, I appreciate you calling and this review. As always, give me a ring if any questions with any of our products. I know these can sometimes require a bit of "fine tuning" to get in there, but once installed should provide lots of rattle free miles !

  3. Didnt fit 3 Star Review

Posted by on 23rd Nov 2016

I had to shave around tye edges of the bushing for them to fit. Even then they were a tight fit. The fixed the rattling noise in the intake, which is great. If i didn't have to shave them i would have given a 5.

    response -
Ok thanks for the honest review. We have to build these bushings slightly thicker and larger outer diameter, otherwise they would just drop in and you would have the same rattles as the OEM bushings. Sometimes this does require slight sanding/removal of high spots on the manifold bore. Ultimately this is the best method though and the increased interference fit is exactly what stops the loud rattles. As always, call or email me directly if you have any questions or concerns during the install process - Paul@GruvenParts.com, 404-556-6663

  4. Best $50 I Ever Spent! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Nov 2016

I had a rattle from my intake every time I accelerated. Drove me nuts. At first, I thought it might be valve-related. After some research, I ordered these and replaced them this afternoon. After test driving, the rattle is gone and my VR6 runs and accelerates much more smoothly.

    -- Gruven response --

Cool, thanks for posting ! Let us know how it continues to operate, and dont forget about the billet VR6 intake link and drive ball incase you need to replace the inferior plastic VW ones !

  5. awesome product! does what they claim it does. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 17th Oct 2016

I recently bought a used 12v VR6 for very cheap because the engine sounded like it maybe had a valve tap. Upon hearing this for myself I noticed the pitch was right, but the speed of the taps didn't really increase with rpm, and stopped after 4k completely. Cut to hours of research, long story short these bushings fixed the issue. The factory bushings had 103k miles on them and allowed the intake valve to rattle when closed. Very easy replacement with just a set of torx. Will buy again the next time it rattles.

    -- Gruven Response --

Thanks very much for the honest review, and we're glad these bushings solved the issue ! We encourage all VR6 owners to remove and replace the VW bushings even from day 1 because they wear out and damage the manifold. If the weak bushings are replaced from the start with the Gruven bushings, this will never become an issue in the 1st place ! Take care, let us know if you need anything more. Paul@GruvenParts.com

  6. MK4 JETTA VR6.. I NEED MY POWER BACK 5 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Apr 2016

I had alot of noise coming from my shift rod so I put the Gruven bushings in.. it worked fir a while but noise came back due to excessive wear inside the intake so I disconnected the vacuum to the shift rode and lost a bit of power and gas mileage. .
I needed it back so I bought a used intake with a stock shift rod still in it and ordered the Gruven bushings and 2 end cap bushing kits..order came quick.. now I'm back in business rattle free.. runs great with plenty of power.
Thank you Gruven parts... saved me alot of money. I definitely would recommend using these bushings even before the stock ones wear out.

  7. Excellent Product 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Apr 2016

This is magical. I was about to change to all intake just for that little and annoying noise coming from the Intake. I have a 2004 Touareg so I just replaced the bushing and all is good. The noise is gone, the engine respond better now. Very easy to replace I don't need to go to the workshop for $300 labor for the half a hour job.
Gruvenparts is awesome the services and amazing good response. I am so impressed. Paul if you are reading this thank you for the advice and help for the phone number you gave me. You are so great very understanding person to the customers matters.
    Thanks

  8. Excellent product. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 26th Apr 2016

Excellent product and I highly recommend upgrading to these bushings. I ordered these as soon as I heard the intake manifold shifter rod rattling. I drive my VR6 daily, so I temporarily removed my intake manifold shifter rod and sealed up the hole on the driver side cover. Lots of torque was lost down low but I only did this to prevent excessive wear while waiting for these bushings to arrive. Once they arrived it only took me 2 or 3 minutes to install. Started her up and went for a test drive. The rattling was gone, and my torque was restored. Very satisfied, thank you very much Paul.

  10. Shy on instructions 4 Star Review

Posted by on 19th Apr 2016

The bushings worked well...no more rattle. I would have considered a 5 star rating if some simple information about the initial fitting of the "shift rod" was mentioned and end plate O rings where included.
In order to install the "shift rod" I had to file and sand the opening of the intake manifold in order to allow the new bushings to pass through on installation. The added clearance is REQUIRED. Keep sanding and filing until the bushings clear. The removed material is plastic so some dust in the motor on start probably results in no harm at all. An O ring for the front and rear end plates would have be a nice touch to ensure a proper seal and some peace of mind.

    ---

Pete : Thanks for your honest response and please do note that you can always call me directly for any question. I usually either answer, or respond within a few hours . 404-556-6663.

Some intake manifolds are a bit tighter than others and do require the sanding you mentioned at the throat inlet. It is best to sand the intake itself and not the bushings because once the bushings are in their final resting place, they will be looser, as there has likely already been wear caused by the OEM bushings beating against the manifold at that location.

We have to make our bushings a tad larger to establish that pinch fit which prevents the rattles.

Regarding the O-rings, these are unfortunately VW only items and they charge quite a bit for them. We can get them from VW, price is around $20-30 for them. Let us know, or you can just order them from VW directly. Most do not replace those o-rings as they dont really wear.
